There are rumors that Adepts have a hard time on insanity mode due to their inability to deal with shields. However few people realise that shields are only one of the different types of protection that exist in Mass Effect 2.
Adept can handle every single thing beside shields quite easily as warp works on biotic barriers, armour and of course health. Consider also that all Collectors have biotic barriers, Adepts are well equipped for the hardest missions in the game. Singularity is also a good way to get rid of shields, as when an enemy with shields walks into one, they get slowly consumed. However Singularity disappear fast that way. If you are playing Adept on Insanity however, you presumably played the game before, that means that you can access Energy Drain through Advanced Training. Here’s a video of my Adept dealing with Geth on the Alarei. All Geth have shields and are synthetics, and they are supposed to be hard to deal with for an Adept. Energy Drain however helps you deal with them. Once their shields are stripped, you can make the Geth fly all over as if you were playing on normal.
Companions used Tali (obviously) and Jack. Swapping between SMG (Locust) and Assault Rifle (Geth Pulse Rifle). Using a mix & match of skills, Pull, Singularity, Warp and Energy Drain. Combat Drone to distract (Attack Combat Drone but I have used the AOE one in the past, both worked for me). Using Jack’s Warp Ammo (Squad Ammo version) as the Advanced Training skill is taken by Energy Drain.
There are other companions I could have used instead of Jack (Miranda would have been better due to the party buff and Overload), but I like biotic synergy with her Pull. I did countless runs with Miranda and I liked a change. This set up however allows me to:
- Have personal shields on demand with Energy Drain
- Forsake Overload as Energy Drain does the shield stripping (so Energy Drain does 2 functions in 1)
- Have Warp Ammo, although it’s just level 3 (since it’s Jack’s Squad Ammo)
